Boost the Woods !

Planting trees to store carbon means using the most efficient technology – photosynthesis – to combat global warming. arboRise is inventing a new, more efficient, and faster method of reforestation.

Indeed, current reforestation activities are expensive (around 2,000 Euros per hectare) and are restricted to a limited number of species, leading to fragile monocultures. With such a cost, it is impossible to effectively combat desertification.

The arboRise method multiplies the reforested area by 10 and divides the reforestation costs by 10 by combining the following innovations:

  1. Using a mix of 40 local and site-adapted forest species, thus using biodiversity as the most relying way to achieve sustainable woods
  2. Harvesting forest seeds directly from local farmers with trees in their fields. In addition to providing them with additional income, paying for their seeds increases the value of local tree species. Furthermore, this will demonstrate to the local population that it is more profitable to protect their own tree species rather than to replace them with palm plantations. In addition, this will foster agroforestry aseach tree generates many useful products (medicines, fodder, etc.).
  3. Coating the seeds with a natural mixture (“seedballs”) to protect them from insects and rodents until they germinate in the rainy season.
  4. Opt for direct sowing, particularly recommended for remote areas.
  5. Disperse the seeds “on the fly”, first manually and then by means of drones to cover a vast area
  6. Ensure traceability by informing donors annually on the impact of their investment.

arboRise is aimed at donors, individuals or companies, from high-income countries who want to offset their carbon footprint effectively.

For 200 CHF, you can replant an entire hectare and receive an aerial image of “your” hectare each year. This way you can measure the progress of the plant cover and your personal impact in the fight against global warming.

With your donation, you are doing pioneering work and helping to ensure that arboRise can eventually be financed by carbon credits.

arboRise operates in Guinea (Conakry) because of the strong rainy season, which faveurs the growth of vegetation. Increasing plant cover stimulates rainfall and according to some studies, reforestation of the southern strip of West Africa could strengthen the monsoon and thus bring back the rains to the Sahel. The pilot project will take place on uninhabited mountains to the east of the small town of Kerouané. Our objective is to reforest 50 km2 (5,000 hectares, the surface area of the commune of Lausanne) with more than 12 million seeds in about ten years

The arboRise foundation operates in Guinea (Conakry) because of the strong rainy season, which fosters the growth of vegetation. Increasing plant cover stimulates rainfall and according to some studies, reforestation of the southern strip of West Africa could strengthen the monsoon and thus bring back the rains to the Sahel. The project takes place in the sub-prefecture of Linko to the east of the small town of Kerouané.

ArboRise foundation’s objective is to reforest 60 km2 (6,000 hectares, the surface area of the commune of Lausanne) with more than 60 million seeds in about ten years.
